Case Study
Objective
Research and build a compelling case study on a sociall engaged software.
Description
For your first assignment, you will work in groups of two to present a case study on a socially-engaged software. You can choose to present your materials in the form of a slideshow or a simple website.
Elements to include in your case study:
Context
- When was it made?
- Who made it?
- Who was it for?
- How was it funded?
Relevance
- What was the social-cultural-political backdrop?
- What was the intention of the proejct?
- What was the relevance of the project?
- Were there similar projects being created at the same time?
Infrastructure
- How did it work?
- Include visual aids such as diagrams or screen recordings / screenshots of the software when possible
Impact
- Who used it?
- How was it used?
- Did the project fulfills its original intention? If not, how did it diverge?
- Did the project inspire dialogues or the creation of other projects?
Summary
- In retrospect, did the project come out of a lineage of social / art / political movements?
- What is the significance of the software as a cultural artifact?

As a duo, you will be giving a 20-minutes presentaion, followed by a 10 minutes Q&A on a scheduled date. You will be graded based on the depth of your research and the effectiveness of your presentation.
